In the wake of a sudden and shocking loss Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) Corbett are trying to pick up the pieces of their shattered life and return to the everyday existence. Each dealing with their loss in different ways causes friction, reproach, guilt as they move through the maze of memories which pushes them in different directions. Trying to break away from the familiar Becca starts a friendship with the young comic book artist that changes her entire world. Howie engrosses himself in the past seeking comfort with another woman. As far apart as they are, Becca and Howie tries to find their way back to a life filled with love, beauty, happiness and each other. The journey takes you in to the intimate moments of two people learning to connect with each other and the world that is no so unfamiliar to them.
